Community Effort | Rick Owens
Rick Owens can not resist the weird and we can’t resist Rick Owens. This season he brought backpacks in human form to the runway.
“Nourishment, sisterhood and motherhood, and regeneration” were the themes that tied into this presentation as stated by Owens to Women’s Wear Daily. It was nothing less than impressive to view recruited dancers and gymnasts carry one another. This action bridged the worlds of fashion and athleticism; a consistent design element that has taken the fashion industry by storm. Rich earth tones encompassed the palette with heavy use of silk organza, metallic leather and drapery. Models stomped with other models on their backs and their fronts often wearing black, nude or a soft shade of olive green. |
The women being carried wore gladiator heels while those who walked worsemi-platform, gladiator sandals. For those who didn’t have to carry a physical load, a structural, design load was carried through excellent sculpturing. Owens told Vogue that his goal through the draping was to get “as close to floral” as possible. Like flowers, the proportions were imperfectly surrounding the bodies of the models.
Owens has always had a way of challenging convention. Here he does so, but stays in the ballpark of minimalism. Occupying the place of modern and ancient, Owens takes us on a stylish hike through a divine trail. Both mental and stylish messages are clear. Woman are powerful. |
